Leeds City Council rolls out new automated bus lane enforcement from Videalert
Department of Transport certification gives green light for new unattended bus lane enforcement monitoring
Leeds City Council will implement a new automated bus lane enforcement platform from VCA certified traffic and car park solutions provider Videalert, to help improve city centre traffic flows without requiring additional resources from its traffic monitoring team.
The contract was won in an open tender that included the main providers of enforcement in the UK.
Initially, five Leeds city centre bus lanes² will be monitored using Videalert. The council expects this number to be increased to seven later this year
An easy to set up platform, Videalert software automates the processes from the capture and recording of video of vehicle contraventions through to integration with software that issues Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs). This streamlines the complete end-to-end process for the identification of traffic contraventions - without extra resources being needed.
David Richmond, CEO of Videalert, said: “Councils are under constant pressure to manage traffic better because of rising vehicle ownership and local government budget constraints are making the situation even more challenging. Videalert provides a highly cost effective method of bus lane enforcement, as it delivers improved driver compliance without the requirement to add additional resources.”
