City of Bradford acquires VTC

Videalert today announces a major contract award with the City of Bradford Metropolitan Council for its Videalert Traffic Compliance (VTC) software for the enforcement of bus lanes across the City Centre. The system analyses the CCTV images from a pair of cameras deployed at each “hotspot” location, one for the context view and the other for a close up view of the VRM, and automatically identifies and captures offences without the need for any operator involvement. The contraventions are then reviewed individually and the evidence data compiled before automatic posting to the ICES 3Sixty Notice Processing System.

Following a successful pilot the Council has identified twelve bus lane locations where the system will be deployed, using a combination of both fixed and re-deployable cameras. Based upon the pilot results, it is expected that the system will pay for itself within a matter of weeks. In addition, as and when the powers of enforcement are extended to other traffic violations (such as banned turns and box junctions) the council will be in a position to respond rapidly to any new legislation which is introduced. The system fully supports the Councils principle objectives of rapidly improving driver compliance, delivering efficiency savings and minimising operational expenditure. A submission to the VCA for “Certification of Approved Devices” has been made and is awaiting approval post completion of final system testing. The system is due to go live in April.

Paul Ratcliffe, Parking Services Manager at City of Bradford says “Videalert allows us to rapidly incorporate the enforcement of bus lanes into our civil enforcement operation without incurring any additional manpower costs. We believe by improving the level of enforcement of bus lanes we will cut affected public transport journey times and reduce potential pedestrian/vehicular conflict. We have been impressed with the results of the system and it’s flexibility to support the full range of parking, bus lane and other moving traffic offences, thus providing investment protection for the future. We are in no doubt Videalert will become an integral part of our CCTV enforcement strategy going forward.”
